Aves 2018 - Week 18

This year I thought I would take on a quilting challenge, so I signed up for Aves , a Block of the Week quilt by Kathryn Kerr of Green Avenue Quilts . Every Sunday starting 21 January 2018, I receive the instructions to complete one block for the quilt. The plan is to complete the current block before the next one is released. Week 18 I was excited when I saw this block.  It involved more foundation piecing, which I am enjoying.  I started cutting out the fabric, but soon realised that there was some confusion in the instructions.  I couldn't start straight away as I had some printing to do, and I figured there would be an update sent soon enough - that's how it's gone so far. But no update came.  I deciphered what should probably be done, but thought I'd wait anyway.  However, by the end of the week there was still no update.  I was a bit annoyed.  Anyway, Saturday I finally got started sewing, and on Sunday the block was complete. Week 17 With last week being a big round, it was expected that this week would be another triangle ring. All the rings are constructed the same (so I can almost do them in my sleep now) but the number of colours and the order they are in makes each look different. I liked this version, though I went off script and made some changes to some of the grey fabrics required. The shades and patterns that the design and instructions use are a bit different to mine, and this looks better with the fabrics I have. I have had a lot on this week, and also haven't been feeling too well, so I took my time putting the ring together. By Saturday morning it was com...

Week 16 I was so wrong.  Here I was thinking I would have an easy few weeks ahead, but no.  It was time for another big round.  There were pages and pages of cutting and sewing instructions, as the majority of the centre was made of strips sewn together and then cut at 45 degree angles into pre-joined diamonds. I usually like to multitask and do different parts of a block at the same time, but this was really quite difficult for this one, as almost every step required the previous step to have been completed.  And as you know, I also like to multitask by watching Netflix while cutting and piecing.  But a lot of concentration was req...

Every Sunday starting 21 January 2018, I receive the instructions to complete one block for the quilt. The plan is to complete the current block before the next one is released. Week 15 I feel like I have had a mini holiday from this quilt.  Last week's block was completed within hours of being released, and I haven't had a chance to look at this week's block until two days before the next one is released.  And I couldn't get started until Friday because I was on an actual mini holiday, off hiking for four days. I took a look at this week's block.  Another 6 1/2" as expected.  Looking at the quilt template, there are at least another six 6 1/2' blocks to do in this section.  Not sure if that indicates what I am doing for the next six weeks, or whether one of the remaining large circles gets thrown i...
