Aves 2018 - Week 20

This year I thought I would take on a quilting challenge, so I signed up for Aves, a Block of the Week quilt by Kathryn Kerr of Green Avenue Quilts.

Every Sunday starting 21 January 2018, I receive the instructions to complete one block for the quilt. The plan is to complete the current block before the next one is released.

Week 20
I won't repeat what I said when I saw this week's block.  It was a bad word.

It is time to do the last large block.  I'll dedicate this one to a friend who has enjoyed checking out the big rounds, much more than the "boring" standard 6 1/2" blocks.

No curves or hand sewing this week, so I took my time sewing strips, cutting them up and sewing them back together again.  I ended up with 12 diamonds of each colour, which were then turned into bird/leaf shapes. Then a bunch of Y seams and some more triangles and I had the eight big diamond shapes. A bunch more Y seams and it was done.

I enjoyed this one. I can do Y seams in my sleep these days. Now I just have to turn it into a circle.

Next week will surely be the triangle ring border, so I went ahead and cut out the background triangles already. I won't be able to get started sewing until Monday as I'll need to print the templates.  That means I practically have Sunday off sewing.  What will I do with myself?
