Aves 2018 - Week 12
This year I thought I would take on a quilting challenge, so I signed up for Aves, a Block of the Week quilt by Kathryn Kerr of Green Avenue Quilts.
Every Sunday starting 21 January 2018, I receive the instructions to complete one block for the quilt. The plan is to complete the current block before the next one is released.
Week 12
Yep, another big round one this week. A centre star, triangle columns and curved wedges. I got started late on this one, but managed to get the centre together by Tuesday. There were three different ways the spokes could be put together, foundation piecing, covered corners or fast flying geese. So considering my late start, and because I have already used the other methods in the quilt so far, I decided to do the fast flying geese. After a google to figure out what the fast flying geese method was, of course.

A couple of days later I had six flying geese for each of the eight columns, and had then attached them to the centre star. Then came the tricky bit - putting the wedges in between the spokes. The first went in well. Then things started going downhill and resulted in me putting seams in, taking them out, putting the back in again, and not liking them. I eventually figured out why the first wedge went in so nicely, and managed to replicate that for the other seven.
So Sunday afternoon, I had a large circle that wasn't perfect, but was acceptable. And no downtime before getting started on the ring to go around it.
